Happy to Be Alive and One With Nature

Here’s a few quotes about just loving being alive and appreciating nature:

Who would have believed that some/many people were beauty-and-nature-blind more than a 100 years ago—thought it was just a modern-day disorder…

“Multitudes of people are beauty-blind to the outdoor pictures. I doubt if one in a hundred begins to take in the beauty visible on even a short walk in city or country.” ~Delia Lyman Porter, “The Beauty-Blind,” An Anti-Worry Recipe and Other Stories, 1905

Well, here’s a great way of thinking about aging…as long as one can enjoy the beauty of Nature you’re good to go…

“Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature’s peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves. As age comes on, one source of enjoyment after another is closed, but Nature’s sources never fail.” ~John Muir, Our National Parks

And then there’s the unbeatable, inimitable, beautiful words of  Wordsworth…

“…And this prayer I make,
Knowing that Nature never did betray
The heart that loved her; ’tis her privilege,
Through all the years of this our life, to lead
From joy to joy: for she can so inform
The mind that is within us, so impress
With quietness and beauty, and so feed
With lofty thoughts, that neither evil tongues,
Rash judgments, nor the sneers of selfish men,
Nor greetings where no kindness is, nor all
The dreary intercourse of daily life,
Shall e’er prevail against us, or disturb
Our chearful faith that all which we behold
Is full of blessings…”
~William Wordsworth, lines written a few miles above Tintern Abbey, on revisiting the banks of the Wye during a tour, 1798 July 13th

Osho may have been higher than a kite but he has a point…

“Look at the trees, look at the birds, look at the clouds, look at the stars… and if you have eyes you will be able to see that the whole existence is joyful. Everything is simply happy. Trees are happy for no reason; they are not going to become prime ministers or presidents and they are not going to become rich and they will never have any bank balance. Look at the flowers — for no reason. It is simply unbelievable how happy flowers are.” ~Osho

Ah, to be be poor and feel blessed…

“I may never traverse the halls of art, yet the dawning day is mine, and the fading twilight, and the lake at eve, and the galaxy of the midnight sky…. I may never place in a Dresden vase one single hothouse flower, but I may lave me in a field of yellow buttercups.” ~Muriel Strode Lieberman (1875–1964), My Little Book of Prayer, 1904

I say yeah…

“I think it pisses God off if you walk by the color purple in a field somewhere and don’t notice it…. People think pleasing God is all God care about. But any fool living in the world can see it always trying to please us back.” ~Alice Walker, The Color Purple, 1982

Hard to beat ee.cummings, simple and real…

“I thank you God for this most amazing day, for the leaping greenly spirits of trees, and for the blue dream of sky and for everything which is natural, which is infinite, which is yes.” ~e.e. cummings
